I have the Xpel strips. I cut my own from their general size tape before the pre-cut strips were available. They have been on for 8 years with no problem.

Thank you to everyone who has responded. I will most likely order the "Stainless Polished Chrome Hardtop Accent Trim. It will save you from replacing the tape each time you remove the hard top. They are for sale on Ebay . The Ebay part number is 182280331966. The cost is $142.49." that clenet so kindly recommended.

The mylar tape kit is very hard to find, I saw one on eBay for $600.00 !...

Wow...my IG still had its kit unopened in the trunk...maybe I need to sell it (I don't use it, either...IMO it's a waste).
Instead, I use 3M Scotchgard Clear Hood and Trunk Edge Sealer Paint Protection Tape each time I put top back on (remove it after taking the hardtop off)...I also use the open-cell foam to secure the hardtop tighter to the body.

I use silicon grease (for electrical components).
Clean both surfaces, rubber seal and paint. Apply a coat of Silicon grease to the hardtop seal.
Re install hardtop. Get it at auto parts store.
