Same as Spence, I have owned my 2002 for almost 18 years now and no fuel tank problems, now has 101,000 miles. It sounds like someone is trying to get rid of a fuel tank.
I had a fuel tank leak at one of the joints on the top of the tank. Ford repaired it with some type of epoxy. They said it was caused by the Borla installation. I dunno.
Basically not an issue. There was a recall on one weeks worth of fuel tanks installed in tbirds during one week in early 2004. It did not affect any other year. The recall was issued in time to recall all of the tbirds built that week. so that ebay report is nothing to worry about.
between 2 birds, have about 300,000 k and fuel leaks have never been a problem.
