  • Put front and rear struts on my Bird

I had put on rear struts for a rattly noise concern and it helped so I decided to put on the fronts last week. Bought KYB's. Used a Harbor Freight spring compressor but had a hard time getting the spring compressed far enough and then the spring tool got in way of the struts. A real mess. I would get a different smaller spring compressor next time. It made a difference on the front end. No more rattles and more control but not stiff-just right. My car had 130k on it. I didn't notice any bouncing with the old struts just a rattly noise that drove me crazy.

Good info, Keith. Sometime in the next 6 months I'm taking mine in for an inspection of its suspension. My guess is that simply due to age (it only has 27K on it), I've got some worn rubber in the suspension, but I was going to start with the shock towers first.

Too bad the Lincoln Sport shocks are no longer available...06 was the best!

I'm thinking about it too...my '02 has 22K miles but it has a spongy feel to the suspension, but when I put the hardtop on things "tighten up" and it feels pretty normal.... I just have no basis for comparison...

Replaced my struts a few months ago with KYB struts. Made car handle much better.

Used a hydrolic press, worked perfectly, only took 10 minutes per strut. Changed on a 02 Bird.

KYB makes great shocks! I have used them before.
