  • Nice surprise, 2002

my AC was blowing hot air and I couldn't tell if the compressor was coming on. Took it to my local mechanic expecting to have to replace the compresser. $20 worth of freon and dye and all is cold again!

Good for you! I had similar good news earlier this summer. My place got me for $90 perhaps I needed more than you. With all the compressor failures, I was sure that I was going to join the club.

Its important to run that A/C regularly, yes, even in the winter.....I try to run mine for 10-15 minutes every couple of weeks or so...

When I bought my bird 4 years ago the ac worked for awhile and quit. I found the manifold and tube assy coming off the compressor was wet with ac oil. Replaced that and all was well for a couple years and leaked out again. I would have to add freon about once a month. I couldn't detect a leak with electronic tester or oil dye. I assumed it was leaking in the evaporator. I ended up putting in a can of leak stop (I was really shy about using it) and it stopped the leak from 1 can a month to 1 perhaps a year. I think I see a little dye on the hose at the firewall but looks like a pain to replace. The compressor looked like it had been replaced before I got the car.
