  • "Short Drop" windows

I want to add some tint to the side windows but, short of disconnecting the battery, is there a fuse or something I can remove to stop that action when the doors are closed ?

The tint adhesive needs time to "set up" and I'm sure the shop doing the work don't want to have the car sitting around for 24 hours because the battery can't be connected...and I don't think they want the windows moving at all during that period.

I had my widows tinted at a shop including rear of both hard and soft tops at the same session(obviously removed and replaced hardtop) and they turned out great I know I told them about window drop and he said it would be OK and they are. but different shops do it differently .I also drove straight home and parked it for 24 hours

I think but not sure that if before you go, disconnect the battery for awhile the window drop and auto down feature do not work until you reprogram them.hopefully someone here will verify or repute this

With the doors open it is easy to make the windows return to their top most position simply by using a small screw driver to rock the latch over into it's locked position as if the door was closed. The window will go up as soon as the latch moves.
Remember to reverse the latch back to the door simply by using the interior release handle as if you were exiting the car.

Very easy do it all the time when cleaning the windows.

If the glass tinting shop does not know this simple trick show them. They will think you are. Amazing.

this is great for doing the tint but the tint shops say do not move widow up or down for at least 24 hours he wants to stop that action for 24 hours after he gets it tinted

Well - the other "tint guy" I just talked to said no problem....he knows how to deal with it (been tinting for decades) but he has to keep the car and let the tint "set up" with the doors open for a few hours. So, I'm gonna trust him. Its just that in Orlando that side window heat coming in is significant. I don't want "gangster" tint just something to cut down on the hear/UV intrusion. We'll see. Thanks folks..

Does Florida limit the amount of tint? We have restrictions here on front driver and passenger windows. From what I can tell, most people ignore the limit.

Any good shop in Fl. will only tint allowed by law. Not the Bird but we have the tint on our Escape. Same guy did the south facing windows in our house.

Yes, but sometimes the guidelines get skirted; the guy that did my 2013 Tundra side windows used seriously dark tint; its like a cave in the cab now and hard to see out the windows at night, but I don't drive the truck all that much and usually in the daytime...

Just learned that NJ bans tint on windshield and front side windows. Pretty much rules out the Tbird. While not legal, I see plenty of it on the road.

hmmm I was always under the impression that front windows had to be 30%or higher and rears could be any tint, but I researched it and it is 24% all around and you are suposed to have a sticker in between tint and glass to prove it. .There are many illeagal windows here in washington but I don't know of anyone ticketed for it. now in california thats a different story many get a"fix it or ticket" or I have even heard of people given a blade and told to remove it on the spot(I don't believe that one what officer would give an already upset person a fricken razor blade at all)
