Back to subject, I have one of my best men on the job in Chicago and things are getting better.

Good news!! My dealer says this is a big issue because they have customers that should have had their long ago ordered Explorers by now and are not happy. At least the fix will (hopefully) be made before the vehicles get into customer hands. Not a good start for a new, important, vehicle for Ford.

My '02 was built on August 7, 2001 but did not arrive at my dealer until September 28th. It was prepped and delivered the same day. To the best of my knowledge it never left the factory until the repair was made. I, too, was advised it was a cooling system/overheating issue.

Right, yours never left the factory until repairs were completed....

It was the Hydraulic Fan Motor Dot. The bores for the main shaft were mis-machined by a few thousandths putting a bind on the shaft. At an idle the bind was great enough to stop the shaft shaft from being rotated by hydraulic pressure created by the Hydraulic Pump thus allowing the engine to overheat at an idle. Above an idle there was enough hydraulic pressure to overcome the bind put on the shaft allowing it to rotate. So overheat was an issue only at an idle.

Here are a couple pictures of pictures of cars going back to Factory for the Hydraulic Fan Motor issue from Amarillo, TX Rail head. My Inspiration Yellow is the one on the lower row at the tail end so it could be the first one unloaded. Bill Greens (15 Again) is one of the 3 red ones at the front of the load.

Looks like the red one on the bottom has a white top, so that would be 15AGAIN. I just didn't know that 15AGAIN went back to the factory.
