My 2005 T-Bird has an inside trim piece that extends across the windshield. It holds the inside vanity lights and HomeLink buttons. The driver's side of this trim piece has come loose and I do not know how to fix this. Local Ford place shows the part but no mechanism to hold it in place. I cannot feel anything that would hold it in place. Does anyone have any experience with this? How is it held in place? Any help would be appreciated.

2002 Trim.JPG
Here is an inside image of the 2002 interior trim I removed when I installed the upgrade. Note four tabs with metal clips on the far left and right, two more toward the center pin.

Hello
I am wondering whether anyone has tried adding the 2004 (maybe 2003 +) vanity light to the 2002 model year. It somehow looks cleaner to me than the dangling wire that goes to the mirror. I can't tell but it looks like the whole trim around the window frame might need to be replaced? Might be easier to replace just the rear-view mirror with one of those modern LCD ones.
(sincere apologies to the purists ahead of time)

I paid $210 for it, (list was well over $300), but worth every penny. It took me about 45 minuted to install it because it needed some modifications. There is an extra clip (cut the middle clip off. I left it long enough so it pressed against the metal header) that had to be cut off and the wiring harness needed to be re-done since the plug in the back of the mirror doesn't ft the socket in the new moulding.
Wiring :
You do have to cut the harnesses. I didn't splice the wires, I put on 3 separate disconnects so the panel can be easily removed.
The two wires that are close together are hot and ground -- and the one a bit isolated in the harness is the one that runs the interior light with the doors.
Wiring codes:
• Orange on car to Green on Unit
• Black/Blue on car to Black on unit
• Brown/Blue on car to Grey on unit
When using the type of plugs I used, make sure the female ends are on the car, NOT on the unit. This will avoid any chance of blowing a fuse when and if the unit has to be removed for any reason.
The whole job shouldn't take more than 1/2 hr. Good Luck.
Use the smallest T-tap solderless wire connector. There are several brands out there.

Yes, the installation has been done many times, thanks to DavidA's instructions. I've tried to Search for the photos, but most of what you need are here:

Jerri - Thank you for the detail. The link leads to the trim piece that you have posted a picture in Oct 2019. I need to find the light and the garage door (?) controller unit as well. Searching for home-link doesn't get me anywhere. Maybe there a more common name for it.

Wondering whether anyone in the forum had a good experience with something similar to this:

BTW, I spliced into the existing 2002 wiring instead of cutting the wires that lead to the existing stock lights. Keeping those lights adds additional light to the dash area.
Posi-tap Tap It connectors for 20g wire is ideal

Most all late model cars use the same mounting bracket on the windshield. You will need the connector that came with the mirror and an internet search will give you the pin out. You might pay attention to the color of the compass LEDs. Most are green, but there are some orange out there.
