A friend had a Corvette that he put away for the winter. in the spring when he got in use the car the battery had enough power to lock the door when he closed it, but not enough to start the car. Then he when to unlock the door there wasn't enough power in the battery to unlock them. He was home alone as his wife was out of town for a week. So there he was locked in the car. It had the convertible top up so he unlatched it and forced the top open so he could clime over the windshield.

So it is possible a lot of new cars can put you in the same situation.
Our Tbird does have an ancient mechanical lock on the drivers side, thank goodness.
P.S. Always pack a lunch to lunch bevor getting into a modern car. Or put in candy bars that don't melt.

All is well that ends OK.
My Escape, driver's side door switch plastic part has been replaced.
All 4 Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires are functioning as they should.
One more piece of info.
My belief is that the battery does not need to be completely dead for the lock not to work.
The 12volt battery probable has to have 8volts leftover for all the electronic modules which regulate the voltage down to the 5volt (more or less) module operating level.
While these modules operate at 5 volts they can switch 12 volts (like headlights).
At some point the system says all has to be shut down do avoid erratic behavior.

P.S. It is possible that the drivers side (tiny FOB key) key will operate with 8 volts. This is not possible if you are locked in the car with the key in your pocket.Last edited by HKS; Nov 14, 2019, 10:00 AM.2002 TB Motor Trend COTY Blue/White/Full #24737 (One of 291)
