  • Gas Filter

A while back I posted that I had a gas leak. I finally traced it behind the front driver side inner lining. I removed tire and lining to find the gas filter and rubber gas line. Aging caused rubber to crack. I'm sure that before leaking, it probably was sucking air.

If you never changed yours, may want to put it on your maintenance list.

Thanks, Excellent point because of where the fuel filter is located it is often overlooked.

        John,
How did you relieve the pressure before replacing fuel filter. Ford wants you to use a special tool to relieve pressure.
Maybe just some rags would do??

Does one replace the filter after so many miles or other times like when engine performance or bad gasoline is suspect?
            HKS.

Service Schedule says, change filter at 30,000 miles. I am at 26,000.
I wonder if the filter material can dissolve after 17 years? Any recommendations?

I did mine myself around 60,000 and the dealer replaced it when they replace the fuel pump.

I'm due at Ecco-Tech on the 10th of December to deal with the seat belt light. Might just as well have him replace? the fuel filter. 108 on the clock..never been done..

Our first fuel filter for the 02was replaced at the Ford dealer. Had about 70K miles on it . Funny thing was the old, used filter weighed less than it's replacement so was apparently still "clean". It's been replaced since, still "clean".

Thanks for letting us know about the leak problem though. George will have to watch out for that the next time he replaces a filter.

Good information. Thanks for posting. I have been procrastinating on changing the front left wheel speed sensor ( indiscriminate traction /abs dash lights issue ) but will add changing fuel filter and hose to my work list when I pull the wheel off to access the sensor. My '04 has 47,000 miles and no record of the fuel filter being changed. Until this posting, I was not aware of location.
