  • Driver side power seat malfunction

The driver side power seat on my 2003 Thunderbird has malfunctioned. It will move in all directions except forward. I can hear a "grinding" noise when trying to move the seat forward. I've checked and made sure nothing was blocking the track or any other part of the seat and found nothing. I assumed the seat motor needed to be replaced and check the availability through a local Ford dealership only to find the part comes as a complete "track and motor assembly" at a cost of nearly $900.00. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks, Jack

Try a salvage yard. The Lincoln LS probably used that same motor for the seat.

From the looks of it the Mustang S197 ( 2005-14) has the same side controls and could be the same motor and track.. I have had those year Mustangs as well as the retro at the same time.

I would suggest pulling the seat or seat motor and find out just exactly what has failed before buying parts.
It could be something as simple as a loose bolt.

Reminder if pulling seat, to disable the seat's airbag first. Think that requires disabling the battery before working or unplugging the wiring for the seat.

Very good advice. A deploying airbag would not be fun.
