10 years is the max for any service work by Discount Tire (my "goto" tire place). If you actually drive the car then don't take chances; tire compounds aren't what they used to be.

WOW! That thread on tires that Ron started in 2017 was a good read. Thanks for sending. I am better informed. I will definitely change to the 55 series tire for both the better look and the quieter ride noted in the thread by many. I also learned I need to look for a "H" rated tire for the quieter and softer ride I want instead of the "W" performance rated tire. Obviously I do not need high mileage, all season sport tires for my weekly boulevard cruiser. I am also now going to compare the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tire with the Cooper RS-A tire as my preferred choices. Both of these had good reports from TBN members at that time. Any current thoughts on these tires? Thanks to all for responding.

Not offering advice or looking for same but I'll offer this because I find it interesting.
My '03 tires are original; 30K miles, 17 years old, no cracks and always garaged and holding pressure.
Getting noisier these last few years, especially the rears transmitting through the top well when the radio is OFF, which it always is.
I pretty much drive locally with only a little bit of highway; actually less than 1K a year these days.
Bought the car in 2013 and 'bin thinking 'bout new tires for 7 years now while I continue my research on longevity.
Probably swap to new when they begin to show signs of senility, LoL.

Oh yeah, still for sale and these old tires tell a story: driven gently and still enjoying good wheel alignment.

Billy, I have had both Cooper and Conti extreme contact DWS on the Bird. Have also put DWS on a Saab and a Chrysler 300C. DWS were by far the best set of tires on any car I've ever owned. Coopers when I first put them on were the loudest tires I've ever owned. Did quiet down after some mileage.

Billy I think the Continentals have a DW tire for those who don't get much snow. Louisiana -snow-Naw-. Almost time for tires on my Volvo C70 (like it more than I thought I would) and was thinking of DWS and I see that the special Ron tires have a 235 40 18 that I need. Hmmmm!

To cut through a lot of chatter on that thread, these are the tires Ron swears by:

            https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-235-5...53.m1438.l2649

Yes, that's for 4, not one. Hard to argue with someone that has bought as many sets as Ron.
That is one EXpensive tire. I run Hankook whitewalls on my 63 Corvette and the cost for all 4 is less than one of these....

Look at it again. That price is for four tires.

I am still shopping for tires. The Continental "extreme contact" DWS06 is not available nor is the Cooper Zeon in RS3-a series. I visited my tire dealer yesterday. He inspected my tires and found no issues, age or wear related, but also suggested I replace within the next year. He recommends I go with the cooper "Ultra Tour CS5" tire for the softer and quieter ride in the 55 width. He offered to wait until cooper offers some sale or dealer discounts usually in the September/ October time and he will call me to order a set. He thinks I will get the tires for under $600.00/set installed with high speed balance. He also recommends the Cooper over the Continental and I trust his judgement.

'Just had a new set of Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S (235 55s) installed to replace tires mounted in Jan. '08. They didn't look bad, had 20k miles on them, but when I had a tire removed to rechrome a 21 spoke wheel, Discount Tire wouldn't remount the old one because of age. The new ones will age out before they wear out. I put, maybe, 100mpy on the 'Bird.
As others have said, replace early, replace often.

I put these on 2 years ago and really am happy with them They are great in the wet and very VERY quiet.

I run Coopers on my Volvo XC90. With the 70,000 mile warranty, I need to replace them in about 5,000 -- great deal on the warranty. Suspension is OK, it just eats tires for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Billy, it's good you trust your tire guy, but how about two guys that have and DRIVE their retros. Ron is getting ready to put on his 7th set and DavidA has been impressed and he has had several high end tires on his car. Both are very pleased with the $272 for 4 Ohtsu 235/55/17 tires with free shipping to your door. You can get them mounted and balanced with lifetime rotation and balance at your local Walmart for $80. That puts you in them for over $200 less than the Coopers. If you drive the same 8000 miles in the next 6 years you'll have saved enough money to buy gas for at least 2000 of those miles.

I've had Coopers on other cars and they were fine tires, but if I could have found another brand with trusted reviews and 40% less cost, there's no doubt which one I would have picked.

Full disclosure - I'm currently using Nokian tires which was Ron's favorite prior to the Ohtsu tires. I've been very pleased with them, so I know we can trust Ron's recommendation.

You should be able to get them mounted at any tire shop. None seem to mind that you bought the tires elsewhere. I’ve done it many times. As to Walmart, the one near Paul must be better than ours.

                            For what its worth,
I just put on 4 Pirelli Cinturato P7 all weathers. Quiet, ride good and go around corners great. Price more than Coopers', less than Michelins'.Between our other cars and my 73 BMW M/C I only put 1500 or so miles a year, tho I occasionally take it out in the winter. Our other 2 cars have Cooper and Continental tires. As amotorcyclist, and in many years as a mechanic, I can never make myself go for the last drop out of tires. so personally I'm not concerned with so called high milage tires. More important are other features which you may look into.
OTOH I may be watching too much F1 or MotoGP

True to both, Gene. It seems like Ron said Discount Tires will mount them for free. Living in rural Oklahoma, we don't have one near us, but we do have trusty Walmart #10. I know the guys there and they always do a good job on my cars. The one thing I like about the Walmart deal is if you happen to throw a weight when you are on a trip, there is usually one nearby to get the tire rebalanced at no extra cost. I've had that happen and it sure came in handy.

No Discount Tire near me as well. I use a small family owned shop.
