HI , I want to delete the automatic tilt on the steering wheel and leave it in a fixed position ?

  • #2
I think you can remove fuse #19 (15amp) in the fuse box located by the passenger's right foot to disable the telescoping and tilting. Make sure the wheel is where you want it when you pull the fuse.

That absolutely works....I had to do that trick to disable the "tilt and extend" when I pulled the instrument cluster...

There are probably all kinds of fuses, connectors etc: that you could disable to prevent the part from working and still have a drivable car.

True. On the other hand, you don’t see a lot of reports about trouble with that function.

After fourteen 2002-2005 Thunderbirds and over 280,000 miles I say if it isn't broken, leave it alone.

You must have been a farmer.

                        Sawmiller first and farmer second.

Yep, my dad use to tell me only two people in the world should take the back off a watch. A jeweler and an idiot.

When I pulled my instrument cluster I had the steering ass'y covers off anyway so I lubed up the screws and sliders for the "tilt/extend" function...it made a noticeable difference in operation - they were pretty dry.

You might do likewise if you're worried about it and leave the fuse alone.
