  • Odometer reading

Wow! Haven't noticed this on the odometers in the past. The turn signal "out" flasher came on at "fast speed" today on the 2005 indicating a turn flasher out. When I got home and in the dark garage and was turning the lights off in the car, the odometer wasn't reading my local miles. Instead it said this:

Has anyone noticed this in the past? I don't recall it on the 2002 but then I didn't look there when it had a turn signal loss.

btw, when George went to fix it, he found the bulb looked fine so he reinserted it and added dielectric grease to the contacts. All works again without putting a new bulb in.

Yes. The retro TBirds use the "CAN" (Controller Area Network) technology to determine certain faults and provide displays to the driver and ODBC codes for diagnostics. Its one reason that if you switch to LED lights anywhere they must be the CAN-compatible type. Newer cars (like the wife's Durango) will even tell you the location of the faulty bulb.

Dot, yes I've seen it and it was a right rear stop/turn signal light bulb. At the parts store they sell in pairs. A month later the left one burned out, so get ready to replace both. Oh, and tell George on the passenger side be careful the trunk light will burn you if you don't have gloves on.

I had a new 1988 Pontiac SSE, a loaded sporty Bonneville. On the dashboard it had a profile of all the lights on the car, low beam and high beam headlights too. Once on the interstate, a stone hit the headlight on the driver's side. A warning beep went off and the liitle dash in front of the left headlight image began to flash. When I stopped to check out what had happened, the glass on the headlight had a hole in it and the glass was fogged up.

This Pontiac even had an air pump that leveled the car when the trunk was too heavily loaded and a hose with an air gauge so you could inflate any of your tires from the trunk compressor!

A friend had a flat tire on his new Mercedes 300E and I said let's just fill it with air. He looked at me like I was crazy. I pulled up next to his car and inflated his tire. I said I'm surprised your Mercedes doesn't have one of these!

Dot, yes was surprised to see that message on my '03 shortly after purchase. Remember the screw and bolt assembly felt like it was 18" long. Suggest a wing nut for ease of future replacement. ( you know in 18 more years!)

The world already has too many wing nuts.
