  • Limited Editions

There has been a lot of talk here regarding things that effect the price of these cars, low mileage being the most common. I have seen little comment on the value effect , if any, on
Limited edition models. The reason I bring this up is while recently wasting time scouring the internet for retro's for sale I noticed the absence of any Limited edition retros for sale and outside this forum there is rarely ever any mention of the Numbered limited in each model year,,,even by the " classic " dealers.

Bottom line all else being equal what are the thoughts of you guys on any additional value for the numbered cars?

I would say with the exception of the IG and NM it's all about mileage mileage and mileage. This link can save some time scouring the net as it has over 500 retros listed with over 100 under $12k

I have to agree & here is why. There are many 02-05 Retros that very unique almost one of a kind of at least one of a few due to the way the interior color & accent level was originally ordered.
There are many of the whisper white, evening black & torch reds but when searching by interior colors & trim level some combinations become quite rare. In fact there are some of these very popular exterior colors that because of the interior have much lower bulid numbers than the 007 coral or the cashmere.
Of course mileage also is a huge part of the price verses value discussion.

Good point Mike...like my Black 03 with the black and white interior deluxe, there were less tan 80 that year sold ! I do have 110,000 miles on her, but doubt that number will go up much anymore since living in The Villages. Our newest Thunderbird Club member is a lady named Barbara. She has a Cashmere with 150,000 miles on it.

Agreed, even the Vintage Mint Green is rarer than the 007 and the Cashmere, let alone how rare you get when factoring in the interior, wheel, and SST options...

I am biased because I own a Pacific Coast Roadster, Number 950 0f 1000. Mostly because I liked the colors on the car. You can go to Dot's website and see a detailed list of all the cars produced by color combinations. My friend's VMG with the black top and black interior was one of only 31 produced in that combination! All these cars are unique and only worth what someone else is willing to pay. I hope the limited edition models carry a little extra value. Ford did!

The only impact most of the "limited" editions has is to raise the asking price and delay the sale. All the cars are pretty much the same. The general public doesn't view a different color as something special unless ofcourse the are looking for that color and no one else has one for sale

According to this besides the low mileage factor the other is color. To most buyers a certified number that is part of the car is no more of a factor than a particular rare color that few people would know the numder buillt. I doubt the appeal of the 007 has anything to do with color but rather the movie.Ford introduced that color back in 1954 and featured it on the glass top ads. Had it not been a limited run 03 I doubt many more would have been sold.

The 007 color had a bit of a rebirth at that time. I’ve also seen it on VWs, Hyundai’s, and at least one other brand.

I think Ford gave up on the idea of limited editions after 2003. At least the NM and 007 related to something. Pacific Coast Roadster perhaps may evoke the highway. Cashmere only makes me think of a sweater. Increasing the number each year didn’t help much either.
