  • Any 2002s That Had Trouble OBD Jack Not Working

I am trying to learn more about the 2002 OBD jack. I have heard that some very early build 2002s OBD connector did not contain the wiring to link up with some OBDII readers. The wiring that was missing was for the CanBus communications. Doesn't seem possible to me but that is what I've been told.

I do know that this problem was corrected by Ford in mid 2002 and never has been a problem since.

    Anybody know anything about this?
    Mike

Never heard anything like this Mike in 19 years of ownership. Ours was one of the first 4000 built and sent out. The port has worked fine since day one.

I also have never heard that....
My 2002 diagnostics work as well as my later cars....
Other than running scans on a very early 2002 and comparing them to a later car, or, in the absence of factory documentation, it may just be another one of those urban legends that gets started.

Never heard of that either. What was the source you heard it from, Mike?

I am working with a gentleman by way of emails who owns a service garage in the UK. He is trying to fix an 02 that has the Check Engine Light on but the OBDII does not show any codes. After using 4 different readers he began looking at the wiring of the OBD plug. It is missing the CanBus cable.

He somehow heard about me enjoying getting into electrical problems on the Retro & contacted me. I think for whatever reason this car has been rewired or changed, possibly to accommodate an accessory. ???????

I am waiting for him to send me the VIN number so that may be Harry can shed some light on the beginnings of this car.

That does sound possible as the car probably was a used car before it went to England. Florida was the most likely place it was shipped out from. What color is his 02? oh, well, if you get the vin# we can figure out those minor details about color and when it was built.
