  • Considering EFI for my 75

Has anyone converted one of the big birds to Electronic Fuel Injection? If you have, what kit did you use? I’m hunting for a compatible system without any luck so far.

I thought Holley made some kind of a set up that just bolted on where the carburetor goes.

It's not a 97 Sport, it just looks like one!

I have seen on shows such as Garage Squad that they routinely put EFI on older cars, so obviously kits are out there. They do seem to have a computer/control module involved but the shows never to into the details of how they do it, or names of suppliers.

Since I have 3 cars with the good old carburetors an EFI conversion seems like a good idea and intrigues me. If you do go this route I would be interested to know how it goes.

There’s a forum called 460ford.com that had an old discussion of the subject. Sounds like the guys spent a lot of bucks and still have problems. I have a hard start problem. Will only fire up if I add fuel to the bowl.

I’ve reached out to Holley to see what they offer. I may just take the less drastic route and switch to a brand new modern carb. I had one of these cars back when they were new. The carbs were a pita even back then. I’m certain that there have been improvements to carbs in the last 45 years.

Actually, carbs haven't changed that much in 1/2 century or more....oh, there are name changes but the technology is pretty staid at this point.
AED came from Quick Fuel which were Holley 4150 clones, Edelbrock are unabashed ripoffs of the Carter AFBs, the one outfit that did try some new approaches in the Barry Grant Demon carb lineup had mixes success and I think he finally went under and the line was resurrected at some point.

The Holley Sniper EFI conversion is pretty highly regarded by many in my vintage Corette circle but its not a "bolt on and go" deal....it requires an electric fuel pump, possibly a fuel return line and an O2 sensor bung welded in the exhaust... Very doable but not a simple swapover.

The Fast EFI system is not good and still has growing pains and I wouldn't recommend it.

Access the VTCI Forum site, (open to the general public for viewing), there was a fellow
who installed a EFI on a 64 Bird. If memory serves, he had to run an electrical fuel pump, a return line to the tank, and install an O2 sensor in an exhaust pipe for computer to adjust mixtures. He reported a smooth install and engine operation.
Believe his screen name was Redbird64. Do a search and see what you find.
