This Day In Thunderbird History

November 21, 2001:

Motor Trend magazine announces that the 2002 Ford Thunderbird has been selected to receive the coveted Car Of The Year Award.

The right choice in my opinion. But then I am a little biased.

An interesting fact: Thunderbird received the COTY award three additional times - 1958, 1987, 1989

Technically, Thunderbird received the Car Of The Year award 5 times. In 1964 the entire Ford Motor Co received the award, which of course included Thunderbird. To receive the award four times on its own is pretty impressive IMO.

If I remember reading correctly , with the 1958 Thunderbird was the first time that the award went to a specific model instead of the manufacturer company .
