If the Mustang Mach-e is an indicator of what Ford plans to build, could it be a "silent" as in EV Thunderbird. I like the sounds Tbirds make and it is something I think I would miss.

The fact that Ford spent maybe $200 to keep the Thunderbird name for another 10 years is meaningless...

It seems to me I remember Ford renewing the Thunderbird name about 10 years ago also. I suspect they just keep it registered because they can.

The filing did not come with an announcement of plans to bring back the car -- seems Ford just repeating the practice.

              Happy New Year 2021!

Years ago, Ford failed to protect the Futura name and now it's a discount brand of tires Pep Boys sells.

Ford probably has not renewed that name as I would assume nobody wants it. Although I have heard rumors that Chevrolet has thoughts of a Chevedsel. This has not been confirmed by our sources.

They also lost the GT40 name along the way as well.

Hey, if they can have success with a D-celled Mustang, more power to them!

I know many here will not agree with me, but, we all know the car industry is going electric, and many manufacturers have cutting edge high profile models that are electric, so why not bring the Tbird name back with a prestigious electric model that would resurrect the name's luster? As long as they keep it a sporty performance car (read - not SUV) that could have a lot of potential.

And one could even consider that a Thunderbird is associated with lightning (electricity) to see a marketing connection?

At the end of the day I expect Ford is just renewing the name to protect part of their heritage, though.

Just a logical legal move to retain ownership of the logo. I doubt another version of the thunderbird is in the works, at least not before the E-Mustang proves profitable.
