Ford re files trademark to keep the Thunderbird name plate
If the Mustang Mach-e is an indicator of what Ford plans to build, could it be a "silent" as in EV Thunderbird. I like the sounds Tbirds make and it is something I think I would miss.
Ford probably has not renewed that name as I would assume nobody wants it. Although I have heard rumors that Chevrolet has thoughts of a Chevedsel. This has not been confirmed by our sources.
Years ago, Ford failed to protect the Futura name and now it's a discount brand of tires Pep Boys sells.
They also lost the GT40 name along the way as well.

The new Tbird, will most likely be all Battery Powered. 0-60 in 3 seconds. If it has 4 seats, forget it.

I know many here will not agree with me, but, we all know the car industry is going electric, and many manufacturers have cutting edge high profile models that are electric, so why not bring the Tbird name back with a prestigious electric model that would resurrect the name's luster? As long as they keep it a sporty performance car (read - not SUV) that could have a lot of potential.
And one could even consider that a Thunderbird is associated with lightning (electricity) to see a marketing connection?
At the end of the day I expect Ford is just renewing the name to protect part of their heritage, though.
Just a logical legal move to retain ownership of the logo. I doubt another version of the thunderbird is in the works, at least not before the E-Mustang proves profitable.
