In 2017 I had to get my FEM repaired when the Instrument Cluster and Shift Counsel lights would not come on. The FEM is located inside the kick panel to the left of the driver. It was not a fun job but it fixed my problem. Just lately the Instrument Cluster lights became intermittent. By turning the headlight switch on and off I can get the instrument cluster lights to turn on but not all the time. I suspect a dirty and/or corroded switch contact but don't know how to go about removing the switch to clean it up. Has anyone done this? If so, any advice would be much appreciated.

lLight Switch.jpg Not sure if this is of any help to you but I have the complete assembly from a 2002 t'bird here . Can have a look at the unit to see how it was removed . Been a while since I took it out of a wreck . Will sell you the whole assembly which includes the light switch / dimmer and mirror control witches as well . Quite sure it was working when the car got in an accident .

Ironically, This unit came out of a yellow bird same as your colour . Got the parts box out last night and had a close look . It appears that all you have to do is pry gently behind the assembly, starting with the right side and then ease it out . All the wiring can be disconnected once it is out .

Snowbird, Thank you for your post. Sorry it took so long to respond but I've been traveling. Ironically the cluster lit up no problem last night. Go figure! Since it is an intermittent problem I will try to remove the panel and clean up the switch contacts before I do anything else. If I need to replace the switch how much do you want for the assembly?

Snowbird, It is definitely the switch. Ever since I've owned the car since new I left the switch on the left auto position. I live on a salt water canal and I guess the salt atmosphere has oxidized the internal contacts. By turning the switch on/off to the right I am able to get it to work but that's not a fix. So, I'll take you up on your offer. Please email directly at bonniedick@verizon.net and we can work out the payment and shipping details.

Success! The replacement switch worked. I now have my Instrument Cluster and Shift Counsel lights working. For those who may have a similar problem the key to knowing if it's the switch or the FEM is if these light work. If they work your FEM is OK. If everything else works that the FEM controls but not the Instrument Cluster and Shift Counsel lights then it's the switch.

George : you are going back a few years so not overly clear how I removed it except the instructions in post 10 . best to use a plastic pry tool If you have one or something like it . They do sell a plastic tool pry kit on the market that may be useful now that you have this new yellow Bird . Good luck .
