Car Shows!

Busy weekend in Central Florida. Saturday I'm helping put on the Classic Car Show at Marion Market. Sunday we retros have been invited by the Classic Birds Club for a brunch at Harbor Hills Country Club. It's nice they recognize us ..The president of the Classic Birds is a personal friend Ralph Cowell who has a '56 peacock blue....just repainted!

Glad to hear some movement is happening in Outings and Events.
I believe only the diehard Baby Bird owners are closed minded about mixing it up with other year Birds. A Bird is a Bird, and we all need the glue to think like minded and enjoy the "CAR" and the people.
As we all know, that a vote was taken, a while back, to merge the 55--57s and the Retros. The thought exists, but has not come into fruition. In time, things may change.
In the mean time, lets all of us enjoy what we got!!!!

If a bird is a bird, then why not expand the club to include all model years? I was a CTCI member but dropped my membership after they didn't acquire enough votes to admit the 02-05. However, after helping build a successful local club here in Las Vegas, I think in this day and age, you really have to be more inclusive to succeed. Social media has replaced the role of the club for many people now. Our club survives and continues to grow as we're open to all model year Thunderbirds and we actively promote ourselves on social media too.

The local Las Vegas CTCI chapter folded many years ago. I offered to help get that chapter revived but CTCI just has more red tape that just creates obstacles. The VTCI club Las Vegas Vintage T-Birds folded too. Now they refer all their members in southern Nevada to our local independent club Thunderbirds of Las Vegas if they want a good community club experience.

Greg, That's what so special about the brunch on Sunday. Ralph the president, tells me he has 30 cars coming and 12 are retros!

I plan to take my PCR bird to the Covington, La street car show tonight. The organizer invited me so he can park my car next to a restore 56 bird. He wants both cars with the hard tops on.

One of the reasons the Nest took off was because people were tired of the BS from clubs. I, for one, get no pleasure from sitting out in the hot sun all day at a show. I also don’t need a trophy to feel great about my cars.

100% agree with you, Gene. I did the car show thing with older cars for several years before we got the retro. Got tired of the Oklahoma/Arkansas heat and wasting a lot of my Saturdays sitting around. I'm so glad car shows have never really been more than a minor part of a few TBN events. The joy is in the driving and going places we haven't been before, not sitting in a lawn chair telling the same old stories. I still enjoy going to shows to look around, but it's great to leave on my own schedule.

I always leave before getting too hot. Tomorrow I help park cars 8:30 til MAYBE noon. At that event club members get no trophies. No matter I've never won anything anyway! The brunch is different...shade parking and a meal too!

The joy is in the driving and going places we haven't been before, not sitting in a lawn chair telling the same old stories. I still enjoy going to shows to look around, but it's great to leave on my own schedule.

My first full restoration was of a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle. I was pretty proud of it and took it to many car shows over the 12 years I had it. I never minded one days shows; but we've got some shows here that go up to 3 and 4 days. Far to long to sit in a hot parking lot to win a $10 trophy. Before we bought our 2003 Thunderbird, we were seriously considering a 55-57 Thunderbird. I thought it might be something my wife would be comfortable driving as all my other classic cars were stick shift. Like Paul though, I wanted something that we could drive and enjoy both in town and on some out of state road trips. Wasn't really interested in trailering something from one car show to another; so the retro bird was the better Thunderbird choice for us.

Meeting went very well. The early birds all said they were in favor of adding us to CCTI! One fellow said he worked with Ron McCloud! We had 10 retros show up..
