  • Recall for Defective Gas Tank

    This is the recall I was looking for in another post. Does anyone know how to find the VINs of the effected cars? Thanks. I'm asking because some people bought their cars preowned and may not be aware of this.

    FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE
    A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
    Manufacturer: FORD MOTOR COMPANY
    Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
    Potential Number of Units Affected: 56
    Description:
    ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL TANK MAY HAVE A LOCALIZED THIN WALL SECTION IN THE LOWER HALF OF THE TANK. THE FUEL TANK MAY CRACK CREATING A POTENTIAL FOR A FUEL LEAK AND FUEL ODOR. THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" INDICATOR MAY ILLUMINATE.
    Remedy:
    DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL TANK FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 4, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673, LINCOLN AT 1-800-521-4140.

      With only 56 vehicles total between Thunderbirds and the Lincoln LS recalled, I can't imagine anyone not getting that taken care of right away, when they received the notice. Considering the potential liability, I would bet Ford monitored it closely to make sure they all were replaced
      21 years, 174K miles, 48 States X 2 & DC, 9 Canadian provinces, 8 European countries, 3 Caribbean Islands, 3 Hawaiian Islands, 100+ National Park locations, 150+ T-bird events, 190+ retrobird diecasts/models, 13 TOTM pics & some very special friends...THANKS TBN !

        yes, It was only a week's worth in February as I recall. Most were caught at the factory.
