Part of it is a stone’s throw away from me and I believe it also passed through York, Pa.

Yes. The Judge and I lived two blocks off of Rt' 30 for 30+ years. I drove on it every day.

Back in 2010 on our way to Keystone Thunder the GPS took us off the interstate at Pittsburgh and put us on hi-way 30 for 200 miles to Gettysburg. It was a nice drive, but there were times that I wondered “where the hell are we”. So I’ve done a couple of hundred miles of the Lincoln Hi-Way but I’d be up to this drive.

I got the point, didn't get the urge.

Out of curiosity I did do a little quick check of the distances involved. The Lincoln Highway route is around 3200 miles long (not including any side trips or u-turns). For us to get to Times Square where it starts and then back home from the end in San Francisco is approximately 3000 more using the most direct, boring routes. For Spence & Judy starting in central Florida, they would add about 1200 miles more.

DavidA and I have had the discussion already about whether our 20 year old, 170+K mile, hard to find parts for cars have any super long road trips left in them. He's more concerned about it than I am, but that doesn't mean I don't think there aren't a lot of risks involved, I certainly do. I'd be interested to hear what others think about it.

Who says you need to do the whole thing? I would trust the car to go anywhere but mine is hardly broken in.

The reality is .... low mileage cars run the same risks as high mileage ones, because of parts unavailability. Even back when the cars were being serviced routinely by dealerships we've had cars with issues that resulted in owners staying extra days or renting cars. Now finding a dealer or local mechanic that will work on them can even be a challenge. It's all just things to think about.

As for the distance we've always had some in for a penny and others for a pound. Some are happy with the penny, but several of us always think in terms of the pound. All have always been welcome, either way.

I would not care to drive US Highway 30 on the south side of Chicago, just west of the Indiana border.
I lead a caravan of Thunderbirds to Dearborn for Ford's centennial in 2003 and the neighborhood made me nervous.

I have done much on the Lincoln Highway. It's a good route but certainly not the best. I am one of those "In for a Pound" folks, but frankly, I don't think my ass could do it any more let alone the car. As Paul said, the risks have frown exponentially as parts and service are getting near impossible. I think the next trip, (or trips), should be "stay longer" style where we stay in a particular location for a number of days and explore the area rather than the "keep moving" style we've done up until now. Just a thought.

As for "You plan it", perhaps it's time for some others to take the helm. Paul, Pat and I have planned many, if not most of the trips and I think it's time for new blood to take over.

And that's because just like the car, some of DavidA's parts are unavailable or hard to find.

Same here, My Bird hasn't been out of the garage for around a year now but does have 153,000 miles on it, Would think twice about driving it another 5 -6 thousands miles on a road trip,
