I meant to add do NOT count on one strut holding up the hood or trunk while you install the other; prop those panels open with something until both struts are installed (ask me how I know).

Searching eBay for a decent price on hood/trunk struts, I found a handy tool to hold the lids up while changing the other strut.

Very clever, but a Vice-Grip can achieve the same results without going very far.
One person job, well done.
