  • An Old Man, His Grandson and the Bird

Our son and daughter-in-law have a tradition that when each of their kids graduate from high school, they hire a photographer to create a portfolio for the graduate that recreates their life and interests. Our oldest grandson turns 18 in April and graduates high school in May, having already earned a full ride at one of our state universities. To say we're proud is an understatement.

Well, he's always loved our 3 Birds (the '02, the 1st IG and our current IG). In fact, I posted a snap of him taking his first drive in our current IG in another thread when he turned 16. As part of his graduation portfolio, he requested some snaps be taken with the Bird - here are just three of those many snaps (the location is the top of a parking garage in downtown Phoenix as sun sets on Saturday evening):

He's a really good boy...very modest heart. His grandma said, "That boy doesn't even know how handsome he is." And my wife's seldom wrong.

Mmm.....take away his youth, his James Bond good looks, slender build, sharp suit and macho attitude and what have you got ?

Having a caring mother and father is what kids need for success. You did a great job and deserve to be proud.

I congratulate you Jim, because you are the Patriarch and as my Dad used to say, "The apple doesn't fall far from the PAIR tree." A free ride to the University, I love it! My youngest daughter won a similar all paid 4 years at the Honors College of USC, The University of South Carolina. I was so happy I gave her a matching amount so she could get a new Honda Civic hatchback, in 1994. She saved $6000 and I said STOP, you have enough.

Thanks for all the kind comments (and funny ones, too, Frank)...Caleb's really a good kid. He, his older sister (Chloe) and younger brother (Micaiah) are 3 of the kindest, hardest working kids I know (I certainly wasn't that disciplined when I was their age).
