Rules For TOTM.
After reading the disappointing post that read something like 'since no photos were sent in there will be no TOTM for March I'm thinking maybe Rule #7 needs to be changed.

Rule #7 says a photo can not be submitted for 6 months if a person has already won TOTM.

Now do not mis-understand me. I do understand why that rule as it stands. It sort of keeps one member from winning many times in one calendar year. But on the other hand this rule seemingly puts TOTM in the situation it is now in.....NO photos.

I for one enjoy seeing the many different photos. Yep basically they all have the same car in them but what I enjoy most is seeing the settings these cars are photographed in. Seeing the car in different parts of the US, could just be a street scene but it shows me different building styles, could be a beach scene possibly one I've been to or maybe not. Could be one with some historical whatever in the background, changes are I've never been to that place. Or just out and about some where local or on a trip.
Doesn't matter I enjoy them all and I vote.

BUT RULE#7 has a limiting effect. So what if a member has won TOTM and wants to submit again. That member may or may not win with their 2nd or even their 3rd entry.
Why not remove Rule #7 and have more participation?

I truly believe Rule #7 needs to be dropped.

I agree! I have thought about this for some time and think it is a good idea.

I'm not trying to guess anyone's voting decision but I do see a challenge in some of these months where the voting seems to favor a recognized owner's car and not so much the better photo (who doesn't want to vote for your friend's car, right?)...with fewer and fewer entries, the "pool" is getting smaller making it easier to vote for "that's Bob's car" rather than the quality of the photo itself. Just my thoughts.

Jim, I see your very well founded point. And I'm thinking you are very correct & that is probably the reasoning behind the founders of the TOTM photo shoot rule 7.

But this rule certainly has its drawbacks to having more entries. Not mention the TBN members who actively parcipate has dropped off.

As we have seen in many races of all kinds & types, popularity or friendships often out vote quality and that's too bad, but reality.

Not sure about its impact on rule #7, but perhaps you're right. I mean I vote every month, but sometimes the vote outcome is a little baffling to me (but I could probably say the same thing about local, state and federal elections, too ). Again, just my opinion. It is what is is, and I will continue to participate.

I will drop that rule but I don't see that making any difference. we're talking about a 20 year old car.

ok, I put the calendar together of all those that participate by sending photos in. They ALL get in the calendar, most just not the feature photo in each month. Many that don't get the # 1 choice for the photo are probably thinking that the rest will not want to vote for a repeat photo, not true.
I prefer an even longer wait for previous winners just to get more diversity in the photos.

I usually do not vote for the "best" photo but one that is well taken AND shows a color that hasn't made it lately just to try to get the calendar looking different with each page. Rarely do I pick a winning photo. 17 colors, we should have at least 3/4ths of the winners, a different color. Black and red are predominate colors just because there are more owners of them and most of the time I don't know whose car is the winning car.


WE get a lot of participation from the members BUT most need a reminder to get a photo in. There have been a multitude of photos submitted that would have made great winning photos but only one can make it to the top each month.

I would propose that we change the method of selecting Thunderbird of the Month.
Like, we could have each member submit their photos very early in the year and let Gobird decide who gets it for each month with no voting. when he runs out of photos, he can ask for more. That way even new members might have a chance to get the honor for their car.
OR when a new member shows up, feature their car as the Thunderbird of the month.


Anyway, here's the list of entries for this past year. /a quick count and I saw 39 names of current members entered last year, only a few more than once. It's why I prefer a longer time period between an entry IF one has won in the past. We just NEED reminders to get our photos in to gobird.
