Answering the 50k question, not even close. I don't care what they did under the bonnet. They totally ruined the esthetics with those tail fins, headlight cowls, extended exhaust pipes, and what is that sticking out of the trunk? Also, did you notice the photos display two different dash radio systems? At least they didn't add fender skirts and continental kit. That's just my opinion. I could be wrong, but I'm not.

I don't come on often these days, but seeing this one was a good laugh although the S197 white Mustang conversion looks good.

While that is not something I would do to a poor car, or even consider for 1 second buying, I will answer the above question of what is sticking out of the trunk. It appears to be a connection for a trickle charger since it looks exactly like the connection on the charger I have.

I suspect it was wrecked and since he had to rebuild the car he decided a resto rod was the answer, not for me.

Maybe not. Several places were selling that stuff back in the day and people were adding it to perfectly fine cars.

I agree with you that people were putting fins etc. on good Thunderbirds. But this one also had an engine swap. A Roush Ford V8 Crate Engine. I wonder if they changed the transmission too, not sure if the 342 would hook up with the Tbird Select Shift. There is a CarFax document that proves You're right. Apparently it was in a museum for a long time. Mileage indicated as much on the Carfax.

                  Was it a Ripley's?

(The reason I'm making comments like this is because quite often people doing mods will comment how awful it looked before they did it. Read some of the comments in that link. Which is not so indirectly saying THEY THINK your stock whatever looks horrible in which case they just should say they like what they did more. In other words, F%#@ 'em!

Reminds me of a Herman Sunday cartoon strip ('can't locate it now).
Ice cream shop 1000 and 1 flavors.
"This is vanilla? It tastes terrible!"
