First thing a dealer will do is run an ODBC scan, which is easy to do yourself or get a ree one from Autozone.
FYI - running cars have a working voltage between 13.8V to 14.2V and an engine off, ambient car will be at
approx 12.7V or a bit higher - lower if the battery is questionable. It can make a difference.
And, as usual, these cars are overly complex - the "short drop" windows are also wired through the converbile top up/down switch and the transmission. The windows should "drop" when the top is lowered nad "close" if the transmission is shifted out or Park.Last edited by Frank Dreano; Apr 25, 2022, 07:42 AM.

Sorry I misread your post. Dyslexia.
Lets see what the OBII reader says first.2002 TB Motor Trend COTY Blue/White/Full #24737 (One of 291)

Yes, its a weird split, DS window is the FEM and PS is the REM; the FEM is far easier to get to...
So, it does matter whether one or both windows are acting up...if both are then its a different ball game.
FEMs fail at prob a 4:1 rate over REMs and also control power steering and some lighting.
Another quick check on the FEM is to turn on the headlights and see if the center console gear shirt indicator lights up (e.g. PRNDL) and instrument lights work. If it IS the FEM this outfit repairs them:

Not to create more confusion on this confusing topic however...
With either the FEM or REM removed neither window will work. This is simulating a completely dead module. Also all year REMs are interchangeable. FEMs are different to accommodate changes to the windshield wiper in 2003
I have 2 Retros who's only purpose is to test FEM'S and REM'S (1 for 2002's and the other for 2003-2005).
If you send me your module I'll be happy to test it for you free of charge (you pay shipping)

When you do FEM repair, do also replace suspect electrolytic capacitors?
Also, do you happen to know which module controls the engine fan in the 2003-5 and the hydraulic engine cooling fan in the 2002?
Is it the ECM/PCM?Last edited by HKS; Apr 27, 2022, 09:59 AM.2002 TB Motor Trend COTY Blue/White/Full #24737 (One of 291)

Yes, we replace all the components that typically fail. Additionally we fully test the module in a working car both before and after the rebuild (the other places only bench test).
For the engine fan modules
On the 2002 it's PCM and Hydraulic fan solenoid
2003-2005 it's PCM and ETC (Electronic throttle control) to accommodate drive by wireLast edited by Brad; Apr 27, 2022, 05:49 PM.

I also do overnight testing of FEM'S for battery draws. Mechanics often incorrectly blame the FEM for battery draws. If your cluster is draining your battery it will get the power via the FEM circuit so it may look like the fault when in fact its doing its job as designed.
it saves hours of diagnostics to know whether or not the FEM is the source of the problems. By testing before and after the rebuild I have an extremely high level of confidence that the FEM was the source of the problem AND that it's been corrected before shipping back.
