  • Tires...Tires....Tires#$#@!!!!!

Well I am sitting here at my tire shop of nearly 25 years . Have needed 3 yes 3 , 19" Continentals for the passenger rear of the Crossfire in the past 4 weeks. Have gone more than 8 years without ruining a tire or even having a flat. But have gone thru 3 in the last 4 weeks at more than $325 a pop.

I had a continental ruined in a pothole last year, the 1 tire cost seemed incredibly expensive. 1 tire was going bald now so I replaced them all with OHATSU's. Much smoother ride, no road noise and out the door with tax just over 400 bucks!

Love the Ohtsu tires on my bird. Can’t find them in the correct size for my Chrysler 300C.

Use what you like but I have used nothing but Goodyears on all my cars. No problems.

Is this a sign you should be stepping down from your job? It seems you keep getting retired.

I bought new Cooper Tires. The oldest tire company and made in the USA. Very quiet...$530 with all the coverage..

All you people claiming you have quiet tires forget to mention that you turn your hearing aids off when driving.
              Michelin tires are the noisiest.

H rated (125MPH) tires are quieter but you can not drive 146MPH anymore.

My three vehicles' sets of tires have warranties for wear and road hazards. It's well worth the minor additional costs.

Tried to buy a set of wide WW's from DB through Discount this past week. DB Tires asked Discount (while I was standing there) the year of the car...I told him the Bird's year and DB told Discount it was a no-go - DOT stamp had to be displayed on front of teach tire (per the law), and vehicle had to be 1976 or older (I'm not going to lie just to get a set of tires - not to mention that DB could ask for the VIN number of the vehicle to verify it's within the age limit of the DOT law).

Discount then called Coker and they had one set left in my size (235.55.17). HOWEVER, the cost for these tires through Coker was through the roof (I'd priced both places before going to Discount...the price Discount quoted on ALL the tires I looked at was still cheaper than price quoted from their respective websites). The gentleman at Discount also told me that if one tire was ruined (nail/screw in sidewall, etc.), I'd have to wait approximately 4-6 weeks from either of these vendors to supply Discount with a replacement (use the spare, or buy a cheap tire until replacement arrived). Whatever tires I buy through Discount will have their full warranty package with them, but that won't help if I can't get the tire for weeks (in the past 3 years, we've had to replace several tires when nails/screws went through the sidewall).

Bought a set of Vogue white/gold tires...at least these can be replaced quicker.

The Vogue’s should look outstanding on your Inca. I had a set that served me well.

There’s no A in the name. The correct spelling is Ohtsu.

Discount Tires also provides excellent warranty coverages. I highly recommend their services.

They have the #1 best balancing machines with the use of the Hunter "Roadforce" GPS9700 machines (in most cases).
They also offer "price matching" guarantees, so if you find some great deal on TireRack or RockAuto you can negotiate
prices on equivalent tires. They fix flats free (unliike the "Tuffy" tire service franchises)

If you have classic cars you HAVE TO MONITOR THEM CLOSELY though. Special care needs to be taken with how they raise the vehicle (not twisting the frame and how the techs torque the wheels). Those air wrench jockeys have the tools cranked up to 100+ ft-lbs for modern alloy wheels and classic car steel wheels are generally in the 60-75 ft-lb range and over-torquing can result in broken off wheel studs or stretched stud threads and distorted wheels.
