That's simply not true...in the summer here in Phoenix, if the Bird is left out in the sun on a 110 degree day, the black canvas top will radiate that heat into the cabin, regardless of the minimal insulation it may have. I know what I'm talking about - I live here, you don't.

Believe what you like. I live in south central Fla. I know what heat is but my car is kept in a garage.

My car is in my 75 degree garage and is under cover. The A/C works well with the soft top. I really doubt that I'll see the hard top anytime soon..

Our cars are always parked in our garage, but when you're out driving in 110 heat and there's not a cloud in the sky, the hardtop makes all the difference in keeping the car cooler.

Weighing all arguments, if you're like me and don't have the ability to easily put on and take off the hardtop, and have to stick with one, I'm for the hardtop. The porthole window is a T-Bird icon, and the cars look really good with the hardtop on.

Besides, here in Florida, I found that I was tempted to keep the convertible top down all the time, every time I drove it, but what with the wind, the bugs, the burning hot sun on the top of my head, and my wife complaining about her hair, I figured, if it's between having the hardtop or soft top, the hardtop was the best for me.

So I guess, everyone has to weight the pros and cons and decide for themselves.

I didn't start this thread to create an argument on which top is better...I simply wanted to bring a lighted hearted awareness of our summer changeover. Others (who tend to be ALWAYS argumentative) turned the discussion into a battle that if you didn't believe the way they did, you are wrong.

Susie and I were both born in Phoenix - we are two of the very few natives in Phoenix, Arizona - we know this city and we know its heat. We know the strength of the sun on our heads and cars, and for that reason we usually wear hats when outside in the summer, and keep a "hat" on our car for the same reason. Our cars have always been garaged - to protect them and us.

It's supposed to be 110 next Thursday - UV ratings right now are through the roof (no pun intended). So if anyone from Sebring wants to start a thread and challenge that, fine - do it. But don't screw up this thread with your imposing behavior. If you'd started this thread and people started arguing like you've done - you'd shut it down.

P.S. You basically hijacked my thread with your overbearing opinions. Please stop.

Soooo, if you went to a drive-in movie (at night of course) to see "The Wedding Crashers" would you prefer the hardtop or softtop up?

I like the iconic look too. Also, it's a pain taking it off and putting it on. My dad passed and my brother moved away so I don't really have anyone to help me as readily anymore.

If I really want some top down driving I use my VW Eos. And to be honest, I rarely put the top down on that one too even though it's easy to do. Especially now that we're back over the 100 degree mark here in Las Vegas for the forseeable future.

Doesn't it get really hot in Vegas? I don't think I ever saw Dan Tanna driving around with either the soft top up or a hardtop on.

Not only that, but we can all soon relate to him. When that show first premiered I think he was driving a TBird that was about 21 years old.

When the show premiered he was driving a Corvette. When it was wrecked, I believe in the first episode, Huggy Bear sold him the Tbird off of his used car lot.
