  • 50,000 mile Service

Today I brought my bird in for 50,000 mile maintenance service. To include oil and filter change, air filter changed, transmission fluid and filter change, fuel filter change, rubber fuel line to filter changed, brakes cleaned and inspected, tires rotated and balanced, wheel bearings checked. The shop also provides a documented multipoint inspection that includes a code scan. My mechanic had a chuckle when I provided all Motorcraft filters and a transmission pan gasket and explained that I am anal about using OEM parts on the bird.
Any one else believe in doing this maintenance on a schedule or do you wait for a problem?

I should get there in about 40 years. I’ll let you know.

I pretty much follow the manufacturers recommended service schedule on all my vehicles regardless of brand.

You need to add in age to miles based maintenance. One thing many people forget about is brake fluid. They don't routinely replace it but after 20 years if you're getting a brake job ask them to replace the fluid.

At all my fluid changes I had the brake system flushed each time

Not sure who would "wait for a problem" before doing maintenance but I've seen a few....
I have had modern cars and classics from the 60s for decades and I'm meticulous about maintenance.
When you are driving a single-master cylinder Corvette with original drum brakes - trust me, you don't "wait for a problem"
However two things have made more modern cars uber reliable and long-lived 1) fuel inhection and 2) synthetic oil.
As to using only OEM parts I have never felt that compunction, I see a lot about ONLY using Motorcraft batteries in these cars. Nonsense, there are only two makers of batteries and Johnson Controls makes Motorcraft and Diehard and Interstate; the labeling is not important. I ran a lot of NAPA, Dorman and other components on my classic cars without issue.
