It was written by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane back in 1991. He has a cool video from back then, that was shot in the Alberta "Badlands", and features a 1965 Chevy Impala SS. I like it, because as well a my 2004 TBird, I have a 1995 Chevy Impala SS. Rascal Flats made the song a hit again in 2005 for the animated film "Cars". Tom is probably doing fairly well off the royalties!
