  • Modify front side marker light

How do we add turn signal capability to our front side marker lights?
Some of our European colleagues have faced this issue when conforming
to their laws, but I'd like to incorporate it here.
There is a method to splice wires into the front turn signals to do activate
turn signals on the side, but the 'Bird wires are encased in harnesses, not
    easily accessed.
All suggestions are helpful!! Thank you in advance.

I haven't seen how the harness connects to the front turn light. Assuming there is a socket that connects to the pins behind the light and that the lights are the similar wattage....

If I were to try to bypass the wiring, avoid splicing the harness, I'd force thin wire along with the light pins into the socket, fish it to the side marker lights and use heat shrink wire connector to connect it to the side marker light.

    Like a high-school science project ;-)

The problem is the side marker bulb has one filament, one hot wire and a ground. The turn signal/parking light bulb has two filaments, two hot wires and a ground.
On Youtube (where else?), some instructions describe cutting the two wires (hot and ground) from the side marker light and splice those into the hot and ground of the
headlight's turn signal light. Distinguishing which of the two hot wires goes to the turn signal (BK/BU or BK/WH on an '02) seems to be the major problem to solve. 'Probably can do it with a volt meter.
      'Working on it..........

Excellent suggestion! The Youtube videos are good, but instead of cutting the wiring to the side marker, just disconnect it. Use two Posi-tap connectors to the ground and turn signal filament in the headlight unit, then run a separate harness to the side marker with new 194 bulb socket. That way, the original integrity of the wiring is maintained.
I'll let you know how it turns out (pun intended).

My bird isn't near me (in a subterranean garage few blocks away thanks to NYC parking) so I can't see for myself, apologies.

Is it a matter of a bulb with two filaments; one that stays on and a second the blinks brightly when invoked? Can such bulb simply fit in the side marker to avoid cutting and slicing the harness, just extending it?

I'm abandoning the side marker conversion to blinker project. After many hours and testing multiple options, I've concluded there isn't a workaround that doesn't require cutting and splicing wires. I have succeeded in shorting the blinkers that requires a fuse or two replacement.
If there are any successful alternatives, please spread the joy.
