In my experience, they do -up to a point; the point being the odor can a problem replacing the varmints. Under, or around a car just might work, but then you have to hope the odor doesn't get into the car air system. Squirrels are smart and persistent, if there's a way around an obstacle, they'll find it. I like the idea of the electronic repeller, but my experience with one wasn't very positive. I would imagine some are better than others, Billy's seems to work for him. I think that a good problem solver might be an exorcist, which reminds me of the fate of someone who stopped making monthly payments to one, and was repossessed.....Life without passion is no life at all.

Again, the bait box between the front wheels is the best protection for the car. It is provided by the exterminator company as part of my house protection contract. Another more humane option is to place a large artificial owl in the garage as a deterrent.( also recommended by the exterminator ) The owl is a natural predator to the squirrel and rodents. You can buy the owls at most Tractor Supply stores. I have some placed in my attics, no more squirrels there either!

I had the same problem on a little Nissan Versa I once owned, luckily my State Farm policy covered the damage. After the repair, peppermint oil spray seemed to work (I got it from Amazon). Liquid crab boil (placed in a spray bottle) also works.
