  • Red hardtop on it's way to Texas...

At this moment, George is in Louisiana at a car dealership putting a red hardtop on our Inca Gold.
As has been mentioned in the past, a local friend of ours purchased a red 02 last fall. Thru circumstances beyond her control (much more on that at a later date); she had to get another red hard top for her car. George finally spotted one on the internet a couple of days ago and called and made arrangements to pick up the hardtop for her. but the hardtop is in Louisiana. So... he left very very early this morning and got to the dealership around noon time. Made the purchase and had them help him get the top on our Inca Gold. I hope he's taking pics which I probably won't see until tomorrow. I suspect his plan is to take the hardtop straight to it's new owner. if not, then I'll get pics here before he moves it on to her car.

so Brad (Bob), it is in our hands right now. Not sure how much he ended up paying for it but it was not to be passed up on. She was getting desparate to have a hardtop on the car in this kind of heat. (I tried to tell her that the softtop would handle the heat ok.)

George made it home at 11pm this past evening. Red top and all. More in the morning. Maybe even pics. Then he'll have to make arrangements to get it down to our friend in Arlington, TX. Meanwhile he reported talking to a PCR owner that spotted him at the dealership. The guy had moved from Florida (The Villages) and was looking for a mechanic to work on his car when needed. That is about all the time George had talking to him as the dealership wanted to get that top on the car!

This is what makes Thunderbird Nest the best website on the internet. I'm sure a big Thank You goes to Dot and George.

That was really nice of George to go pick it up for her. How long a drive? The price was great, so glad it's going to someone that can use it

I think somewhere just over 1000 miles round trip. He left here at 2;30 am, had a 2 hour nap somewhere along the way and ended up at the destination at noon. From there he went back home and arrived at 11PM same day (last night). of course he had dinner and lunch along the route. As for our friend, she's 80 years old, small lady with bad back. She wasn't up to that kind of trip. We decided to meet her next Friday to move the top to her car. shipping is too hazardess with too many unknowns. Dealership was glad to get rid of the top as Subarus don't have a use for a top like that. Apparently the dealership used to be a Lincoln/Ford dealership that closed down a few years ago and it became a Subaru dealership. top was left over from a storage situation at the Ford dealership. Story is that the tbird owner sold the car without hardtop and didn't care about the top.

That looks as bad as the red top we delivered years ago with a red top on our Thunderbird Blue.
