  • Jack Telnack

The new owner of this car is looking for information on this car. It has pinstripes and a cobra on the front fender. The plaque is on the rear deck and by the gear shifter. The person named was a design VP at FORD until 1997

I remember reading something about him in the Lamm book. I believe he was one of the guys "in the room" when the ideas and concept were first hatched for the retrobird and was instrumental in keeping the idea alive before his retirement.

This all from memory, so I could be off completely. My book and I are about 800 miles from each other.

Interesting he wouldn't get one before 2004. Who knows if he had the cobra emblems put on or the guy's in the garage did it as a joke.

According to various references in the book.....he was design vp at the time before j mays took over.

He retired in 1997 from Ford, age 60. No more info that I could find on him, if he worked for any other companies after that. The car sold from the original dealer in July 2004 as it sat on that lot since Oct. 2003.

The only one I know that might have had or knew of any info on the car was Ron McCloud (RIP) IF it was Jack Telnack's.

I saw this 2004 Thunderbird before it sold at the AutoBarn Classic Cars facility in Concord. NC. It had the gold plaque on the trunk "High Performance T-Bird built for Jack Telnack Designer". Both front fenders had the red highlighted Cobra emblems over the V8 emblems, and a Cobra emblem on the console beside the shifter.
I have seen one other 2004 Thinderbird with the silver Cobra emblems over the V8 emblem, but it was Platinum Silver and no noted plaque on the trunk.

I had a 92 Continental with a similar plaque. All buyers got them from Ford if you sent away the paperwork that came with the car.

There's always the possibility that if the car was built for/gifted/leased to Jack Telnack originally that a subsequent owner put on the Cobra emblems, not FMC or Jack.

What I find interesting is that the car is an 04. You would think that he would have gotten an 02 or an early 03 since they were the models and closest to his retirement. Perhaps he did have one and traded for the 04. We'll likely never know and in reality it doesn't matter

I would think, but certainly don't know, that the Cobra emblems were added with the trunk plaque. Otherwise, why would the plaque say "High Performance T-Bird.....". It would probably just have said something like "Specially built for Jack Telnack"
                              Just my thoughts.
I'm not sure why someone, other than members of one of the old design teams, would create this with the plaque and Cobra emblems. Most people do not know who Jack Telnack was, or that he was a designer for Ford on the Mustang, Thunderbird, etc. It is a sharp looking 2004 Thunderbird!!!
