The reason that there is a turnoff on the passenger side is for hauling infants.
Car carriers don't like airbags.
A foo light is the evidence and you should be using it here for diagnostics. If it didn't turn on you may have a real problem.
Sounds like a simple short to me.
Error codes?
Don't forget the boom factor on airbags.

Reset the computer and make sure the passenger side airbag is turned off for now and see if the airbag light comes back on after 50 miles or so.
If you don't have a scanner go to autozone or advance auto or anywhere else that sells auto parts, get a free scan and reset (clear) the error codes and then drive a while (with the passenger side airbag turned off) to see if the light comes back on.
Process of elimination ensues...
