  • Manage the Wait plaque.

Box 5 of the Manage the Wait set has an application and mailing envelope for a custom metal plaque with,
presumably the name of the owner and VIN #.
Had anyone gotten one of these back in the day? I'm curious about creating one for my own car, unless of course,
I can mail in the application now.
    Thank you.

A picture would be nice. I didn't buy my car new so no plaque. But I do have the Lucite tbird plaque that is rather rare.

Here's ours. You could customize the name(s) and the line under the names. We put the song title "Just You and I" because of the car being a two seater and it was our wedding song.

Greg, these were only available with the 2002 Manage the Wait program.

It's showing on my screen. I'll try another way.

That is very nice - Thank you for posting the picture.
Interesting how they had associated the VIN to the order, allocating a specific car to each pre-order.

Thank you, Paul, for sharing your plaque. It's interesting that by the time the #5 Box was received, the ower's name and VIN number were listed on
                      the plaque application.
A great bit of 'Bird history. Thanks again.

Glad everyone enjoyed seeing the plaque. After almost 23 years I don't remember much about the process to get it other than sending in some type of application. Since the Manage the Wait program boxes could only be received by those that had ordered or bought a car, Ford could easily match up the VIN to the person/car.

We did not order our car originally, but agreed to buy it when the person that did backed out before it was built. We asked the dealer to put us in the Manage the Wait program. He was not familiar with it. Dealers had to pay about $50 to Ford for the recipients to get the boxes. Before Ford dumped the leftovers for free to attendees at an event or two, some sold for big bucks on Ebay and TBN.

Another twist in the plaque story is that about 5 years ago someone on Ebay had at least one of the actual plaques for sale that had not been personalized. It's in my collection of retrobird memorabilia somewhere around here. Not sure how they ended up with it or if they had more than one.

I think we had to include the vin # along with the verbiage we wanted on the plaque. I had originally ordered 2 car so there was no way they could have differentiated between the cars when I ordered the plaque. I did get both manage the wait sets but never took delivery of the second car. As a matter of fact, I sold the other set on eBay while we were celebrating the first TBN gathering in Destin Florida back in 2002.

Remember, back then it was in very high demand. I think it sold for $1050.
