Nope, they are just fine. If there is more heat, it's really incremental. Others have been running these bulbs with no problem.

      Ron,
I've been running the M6's for over four years with no problems.

Now if those revised ground wires were connected to a dash switch you could have an SPL override to shut them off when desired!

Re: Daytime Running Lights using SPLs

Hi, I'm not sure whether to post here as the thread is years old, or to start a new one. Been reading about setting up the SPLs to be fully functional daytime driving lights, and am having difficulty understanding where to obtain power. The pictures referenced are no longer available so I have attached an image of my Aux Power Box. At which point in the APB should I take power? Please advise.

(If no response in a few days, I re-post with a new thread). Thanks for looking...

Someone may come along with the answer - I do not remember but I will look at it tonight and let you know. Do you have a test light or volt/ohm meter?

                OK,
Remove the fuse in position #3.
Remove the fuse in position # 5.
Take the fuse from #5 and place it in the lower position of the add-a-fuse.
Take the fuse from #3 and place it in the upper position of the add-a-fuse.
Insert the add-a-fuse in position #5.
Take the lead from the add-a-fuse and place in the + side of position #3. (the + side is near the firewall)
If you have grounded the SPL correctly they should come on when you turn on the key. If you blow fuses then consider the cost of the instructions.

THAT IS WHAT I REMEMBER, BUT, DAVIDA SAID SOMETHING WAS CRITICAL ABOUT THE GROUNDING, BUT I WAS HECKLING AND MIGHT HAVE MISSED SOMETHING.

Lonestar, thanks for the amazing response. Yes, I do have a volt/ohm meter and am familiar with it's use. I've ordered the part and will post back soon as I complete the mod. Again, thanks for your help with this...

Lonestar, please pardon my newbie commentary, but aren't the SPLs properely grounded at the factory? Also look at my comment on the attached image. Thanks.

Bob....that is what confuses many people about how our birds are wired using a "reverse wiring" method. Instead of grounding devices and putting the switch in the hot leg of the wire, many items are actually grounded via a switch in the control box. As such, the lights are always hot waiting for the control box to connect to ground and complete the circuit. This mod grounds the light directly and then applys power when vehicle is on.

PS...your note is correct. Those wires are not part of the mod.

PaulD explained the grounding situation - IE, most of the electronics are wired hot and the switch provides the ground.

The wires you have pointed out - I almost moved those so as not to confuse anyone. Guess I should have. That connection is for my underhood lights. Too darn hard to get to the harness under the fuse box so I went the easy route.

I downloaded the pictures & instructions that are listed in post #12 back when I did this mod. If you need then, I can PM them to you but it would be another week before I could do that because I am traveling right now.

Paul, thanks for the offer, but I found other pix and feel comfortable to do the mod. Parts are due to arrive this coming Wednesday so I'll probably install next Saturday. Only remaining questions are how is the grounding of the lights accomplished? And are they connected or does each light require a separate ground?
