When I got my first vanity plate in 1975 (I was 16 and had a '68 Mustang, 289, 3 speed), California only allowed 6 characters so I had 4PINKI. Some time ago that was changed to 7 characters. Then a star, heart, and hand was added along with different 'specialty' backgrounds.
I'm seeing that some states have 8 characters. Aren't license plates one size fits all? lol I wonder why there is a difference. I mean, if they are the same size...why not have it regulated nation wide as to how may characters are allowed.
