I'll be trying out the new Nuvi 350 as well. I've only had the short run to Tulsa to check it out.

Here's another we can use to compare. I'll have my new Magellan Crossover GPS with me at Motown. It is also portable. Can also be used on the water the next time I want to take a walk on that.

Well finally got to try the Nuvi 350 top down today. On regular roads it's fine. But at 80 MPH I can't hear a darn thing, even with a earphone plugged in. It was a cheap $3.95 earphone, I will try to find a better earphone or ear-bud and see if that helps.

            Re: Garmin Nuvi 350 Bargain

I just bought the 2008 map update today for the Garmin. It only came out last month - to those who just bought a Garmin - go onto the web site and input your serial number to see if you qualify for a free update. I think that you can get it for free within 6 months of purchase. Otherwise I paid $80 at bestbuy today, but i needed to before the NC trip as my map was outdated.

Oh wow Vickie, I hadn't heard about the 6 month limit to update.
The salesman I spoke to told me to save the map update til when I really thought I might need it. Is the NEW map update something they publish every year, or is it every few years? I thought I had the latest version, but Garmin shows my house address in the wrong place. Other places I have visited are also in the wrong place.

                Re: Garmin Nuvi 350 Bargain

I bought a 350 from eCost for $309. Came with V7 of the maps, which seems fine to me for now.
                This thing works great!
If Target is out, try eCost, and see how much they are asking for them now.

Where on the Garmin site do you enter your SN to see if you qualify for the free upgrade?
I bought my 350 last month, would love to get the v8 software...
                  Thanks!

Pete - Go to garmin then select "Maps" then select "Map Updates" it will then ask for you to input your serial number.

There is also a place under the products / on the road / Nuvi 350 / updates and downloads to determine if you have the latest download.

On the unit itself you can go to the settings menu and I think maps (don't have the unit here with me). It is says anything other than "....2008" you have an old version.

Ok, I have the Garmin nuvi 360. Touch the little wrench to the right of the "Where to?", then touch "map", then touch "Map Info" at the bottom. You will then see what version map you have, the Garmin 360 has map version 8 already on it. (and so this new version 8 is still outdated as heck!!)

Jules - I hate to tell you, but that is the old version map. It has to say "City Navigator North America NT 2008" the ".... V8" is the outdated file over 1 year old. Try the online updater, or contact the location you bought it from.

Vickie, it says City Navigator North America NT v8. (written just that way)

                              Download software updates with
Use WebUpdater to automatically keep your operating software current.
This is free and may fix your problems.

You can also download different color and style cars at the same time.

I bought mine in 03/07 and had to update my software, this will also correct the new daylight savings times.

I'll pass on the $69.00 to up grade from V8 to 2008. I've always used outdated paper maps without any problems, maybe in a couple years I'll do an update.
