    Re: Coker Whitewalls are coming

NO, Coker has still not come through. I ran out of rubber waiting and finally went back to Diamondback. I put on a new set of Michelins, one size bigger ... 55 series instead of 50 series. They seem to fill the wheel wells a bit better, and, as a side effect, the speedometer is now dead accurate.

Per the speedo, some of us noticed that when compared to the GPS, the actual speed showed a bit faster than actual. With 55 series tires, indicated is the same as actual now.

My DB's have about another 10-15,000 left on them, but in the back of my mind, there is the issue of replacement. I'm disappointed that the Coker's fell through. David, isn't the 55's the same size available from Vogue, and if so, why did you choose going back to the DB's instead of the Vogue's? (if this was discussed earlier in the thread, I apologize for my ignorance in advance)

Jim, From my recollection, Diamondback makes Vogue's tires but some styles are exclusive to Vogue.

I have WW on my list for next season and it would be great if Coker came out with the correct size for our Birds.....

            Re: Coker Whitewalls are coming

I would not put coker tires on any car that I planned to drive over 50 MPH. Coker tires are made for show and not for high speed driving. I once put a set on my 1957 bird and after about 5,000 miles the tires began to have tread separation. This went through all 4 tires. They are made for show only and for anything else they are just junk. It cost more but I will stick to Michelins on both birds.

              Re: Coker Whitewalls are coming

I went with Michelins instead of Vogues because of the looks. I like the wider white and I don't like the gold band on the Vogues. I had great luck with my OEM Michelins, about 66K and think these new ones will be even better.

Yes the 55 series is the same size as the Vogues. I understand from another TBNer that Vogue is no longer making the size we need for our Birds, so our choices are few if you want whitewalls.

Diamondback can add whites to almost any tire you choose. I chose Michelins again, but there are less expensive alternatives.

As for Diamonback making Vogues, I don't think that is a fact. Diamondback vulcanizes their white and colors onto the sidewalls, Vogues are manufacturered with the whites and colors built in.

Not that the Diamondback system is bad, you just have to be a little more careful and NEVER hit a curb either head on or rubbing the sidewalls.

Vogues aren't made by Diamondback (http://www.voguetyre.com/AboutUs/index.cfm).
And David's last comment about hitting or scraping a DB tire can NOT be understated...it WILL damage the WW!

Your sourse of information is incorrect I believe. Here are two 55 series tyres by Vogue that will fit on our cars. They never made the OEM size of the Michelins. I have had the white/gold Tyre on mine since new and love them:

                    Re: Coker Whitewalls are coming

I'm probably the source on the Vogue availability that David was talking about. I recently had to replace two Diamondbacks' that got scuffed during some jockeying around in the hotel parking lot at the recent Savannah Thunder meetings.

They weren't really bad but I knew the marks were there and it bugged me.

I researched Vogues but, like David I didn't like the gold band and the other series is a very narrow whitewall. I wanted the 1.5" ww or maybe even 2". I think I told David that Vogues didn't make the white whites that we both were looking for.

So, I bought two more Michelin pilots from Diamondback and put them on the front. Moved the two best existing ones with about 14,000 miles on them to the back and then kept the best one and mounted it on a spare factory chrome wheel I bought from Elle last year just to have handy. If it wasn't so darned heavy I might try to find a way to put it out back as a continental spare.

I agree with you Rick, wide whites would look much better on your color combo. I have seen my style vogues on several different color birds, and I must say, that in my opinion, the black and sand and the triple black is the only combo that can pull it off.

Rick: I think your solution was a great one ... 2 tires and you got what you and I both like so much. I really like the look of the 2" whites.

I like them, too, Ron. I'm considering the Vogues for my IG should I need to replace them anytime soon. The DB's are too prone to scuffing.

If Ford doesn't fix it, it's gone (as of right now, Ford's on board, but now the dealer's being sloppy). If they do fix it, then the next set would be Vogues.
