  • Replacement inside door pulls?

The inside door pulls (latch handles) are chromed plastic. There is a mold seam where your fingers wrap around to operate the pull. On both of my birds the chrome plating is begining to peel at the seam. The flakes are razor sharp and can easily cut and/or stick in your skin. I have sanded the edge, but the real problem is the plating continues to peel. Anyone have this problem? Does any after market supplier make chrome plated metal pulls instead of plastic?

    Any info appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have not heard of this problem before Roger. Just went out and checked my 02 car inside door pulls and see no peeling. Do you or maybe your wife wear a ring or something that might catch on the seam as you tug on the door pulls? Make me kind of wonder since you are having this same problem with 2 of your cars.

I've noticed the same thing on my 02 (driver's side). It's not too bad yet.

I think I would put a thin layer of clear nail polish over the edges that are peeling to stop it, at least until you figure out what to do about it.

I wonder if it is a PCR problem only maybe?

My 02 also is peeling on the drivers side. Its realy bad, so bad that I have a replacement for it sitting in my garage right now. The handle is rivited on, so thats why it hasn't been changed yet. Maybe next month.

Well, looks like some of you are having the same problem. Chrome plated plastic hardware, another bean counter cheapness factor of american automobiles!! I have never seen chrome plated plastic that does not eventually start peeling! Could it have really been that much more to cast this piece out of pot metal? Back to my question, is there any supplier that might make a metal replacement?

              Thanks!

Guys haven't seen this on the door handles but see it on the faux louvers & the grill.

Ditto here on the driver side. Started a couple of weeks ago. Have not notified dealer about it yet.

I doubt anyone will make a metal replacement. Too much liability issues involved if it were to fail in an emergency.

Not in my case Mel. Imported cars don't come with warranty
