Sulfur smell after hard driving for 1-2 minutes

I test drove a 2003 Thunderbird today and pushed it hard and braked a couple times over a 1-2 minute period when I began to smell something like sulfur. It went away after a couple of minutes. Is that normal? I appreciate everyone's insight! Tara

It's true. The first few weeks I had the car, I stopped and opened the hood a bundh of times to see if there was something in the engine!

Smelt the sulfur(rotten eggs) in my 02 on hard aceleration but not at all in my current 04.

I am always running late so I smell the sulfer every day, and then when someone gets in the passenger side they give me a funny look and ask me what did you have for lunch. Thanks, Rick

This is strange to me, since when I first purchased my car, I have never smelled a sulphur smell coming from my car.

What is it coming from?

That sulfur smell is caused by the sulfur in the gas you're using
and the catalytic converter on the car.
The easiest thing to do is to try a different brand of gas
to see if it clears up.
Different brands of gas have different amounts of sulfur in them
and also react differently with different car manufacturers
makes of catalytic converters.

Unfortunatly I often have that problem.
Especially if the gas I put in consists of
beer, beans and hardboiled eggs.

I have the nasty smell to during acceleration, does anyone know how to find out the sulfer content of different brands of gasoline?

My 2002 only has the sulphur smell when I go 110 MPH. I have only done this oance in the middle of South Dakota on I90.
