  • Personolized plates ?

    Hi everyone,

I know this is a stupid question but what is the simplest way to order one of these custom personalized plates. Remember, I am British so I'm not that familiar with how to go about it.

I decided to ask here because it seems a lot of you already have them and I thought you could give me some guidelines.

Also, is it expensive and how many digits or letters are allowed?

    Thanks in advance, Gordon.

Personal prestige license plate combinations for a private passenger vehicle weighing less than 14,000 pounds cannot exceed seven (7) letters &/or numbers including spaces.

      Prestige Plates In GA

Some call them vanity plates, and some call them personalized plates―but Georgia calls custom license plates "prestige" plates. To apply for one of these, you must complete an MV-9B application requesting up to six different choices for your vehicle (you will receive the first one that is available). The application spells out which letter and number combinations may be used.
Requests for obscene, profane, or defamatory tags will be denied, as will requests for tags already in existence.
In addition to the ad valorem tax on your vehicle, each year you will need to pay a $25 special tag fee and a $20 registration fee. You'll also need to pay a $25 manufacturing fee the first time you order the tag.

        Gordon:

In Georgia it takes a while to get them made. When they get enough to make a run of 'prestige' plates they gang them together. Figure anywhere from a month to three months before it comes into the local DMV office.

Gordon, what are some of the ideas you have for your personalized plates?

            Re: Personolized plates ?

            Hi there.

Thanks for the information. As for what I would be aiming for. Well, DAKTARI would be my first choice as that is what my reggae band in England was called and my nickname became DAK and that is also my name on this forum. Another choice would be GO RACH which is the first three letters of my name and the first four letters of my wife's name, Rachel. Another would be IMABRIT which I was going to use if I bought a Jag instead of a Thunderbird. Another one, and this is just silly, stupid but I like it... FRONT which would obviously be on the back. Rachel thinks the last one to be very' GOOFY' and she's dead right which makes it a definate contender.

I really need to think of something extremly witty to do with Thunderbirds but that is a bit tricky because all you seasoned Thunderpeeps have already got so many....

I'll let you know if I come up with anythig better, Gordon.

              Hi again,

Here I am replying to myself. I started thinking of one to do with Thunderbirds...

How about this - especially living in the South, SWEET-T .

I'm sure that must be taken already. If not, I'll add it to the list.

              Gordon.

Gordon, here in North Carolina we are allowed 8 letter and/or number combinations on vanity plates. Cost is $58.00 annually. Mine is below.

Gordon, you may also want a chrome hood scoop. Looks particularly excellent on a black Bird and it will hold you over until you get your new plates.

I believe Dot has pictures on her site, of many plates from various States, from the members here; for other ideas - That may help.

OR, go to this thread for ideas http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...=vanity+plates

IN TEXAS YOU ARE ALLOWED 6 LETTERS.

IF NO ONE ELSE HAS THE NAME YOU CHOOSE - WE JUST FILL OUT THE FORM AND SEND IN $40.00 AND IT TAKES ABOUT 7 TO 10 DAYS TO GET IT.

IT TOOK ME 4 TRIES TO GET "LVIRA"

GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND LET TBN MEMBERS KNOW WHAT NAME YOU CHOOSE.

                        HAPPY TRAILS

Sometimes the DMV can be ridiculous. Here in OR, we are allowed 6 letters with up to 2 spaces or dashes. Her name is "Sue" and she drives a Subaru, so she wanted Su-baru, but that was taken, so she opted for Sue-bru. The kicker is, the DMV wouldn't allow it, because it was supposedly a reference to alcohol. I wrote a scathing letter to them in defiance, but never heard a peep back. She finally picked something that was less problematic.
