  • White walls (again)

The Bronzebird isn't ready for tires yet but we're getting close. I'm thinking whitewalls may look good and have been browsing the Vogue and Diamondback sites for some deals.

Vogue doesn't make a 235/50/17 but claim the 245/45/17 will do. I'm just a little concerned about the speedometer error with this size. (in addition to the outrageous price).

Anyone running this size on a 2005?

Diamondback has the right size in both the Michelin Pilot and a Federal tire. The Michelin is $339 and the Federal is $100 less. Since I don't plan on running Bronzebird at a steady 95-100 mph, I'm figuring the Federal may fill the bill. Anyone have any input on that one?

    Thanks in advance.

Rick, Coker Tire should have whitewalls soon. Check this thread. Ken

I am running Vogue 235 55R 17 on my Bird and have had no problems at all. In fact, I think they are a better ride than the OEM tires. They are a bit higher and wider than stock, but I like the look. They fill out the wheel well better than the stock Michelin (IMO)I don,t know where you are pricing them, but they are cheaper than the others mentioned, except Larrys. As far as the speedo is concerned, it's 3 mph different than my GPS.

Here is a chart to see the difference. Just fill in the sizes http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

          Thanks, Mike:

My nearest Vogue dealers are in Florida and Virginia so I have sent emails to both to verify pricing & delivery on the 235/55's.

Super Buy Tires has them at $249 each but the shipping costs from California are about as much as one tire costs.

I appreciate the lead. Larry has decided to put the ww's with the wire wheels back on his car this weekend.

Don't do it. I did and it drove me crazy seeing the whitewall on the inside as I walked up to the car. They do show as you approach the car from certain angles.

                        Elaine:

My '05 is now on it's second set of white walls. They are the Diamondback Michelin Pilots in the 235/50R17 size.

There are several posts on White walls that you may want to search before you make your decision. I know that David A just put new white walls on his car and they are the 2" ww's versus the 1.5" width I have on mine.
