Dot may be the one to answer but I don't think this will work in our Birds, I don't think the Birds use the Audiophile. Curtis. it does use the Audiophile system maybe it will work. Curtis

I'm running on the assumption you've already checked with Ford and got a ridiculous price?

Have you checked with a Lincoln dealership?

They replaced mine, mailed me back my CD's two weeks later....$350.

it has the correct part number for an 02 and the face plate looks correct for the 02.

I haven't yet checked with a Ford or Lincoln dealer, but my guess is that it would be a lot more $$ considering the typical dealer markup.
Just thought I would toss this out there and see what others had to say.

          Thanks for the responses,

Bob, our Thunderbird cd players are notorious for jamming up, I would just hate to see you spend the money for a replacement if in fact all that is wrong is a cd is stuck.

I know on another thread you said the cd slots were empty, but I'm just curious, have you actually tried to play the cd player? Turn on the radio, press CD and push one to see if anything plays? Then push 2 and see if anything plays? And so on..........

Re: Pricing on replacement factory radio unit

Even a new or refurbished unit will likely fail again eventually with this problem. I wouldn't spend the money on this.

My unit was replaced a little over two years ago. I don't use the cd player much anymore but at Christmas time I bought a new cd I wanted to hear. It played but jammed when I tried to get it out. The unit said no cd and wouldn't open the door. I left it alone for several days. Then my battery died (unrelated problem). When I got the car started again, the error had cleared and I could try ejecting again.

So, my point is, if your player is stuck with CD Error and won't play or try to eject, try pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery to clear the memory of the error. Then you can try ejecting again and use the edge of another CD to "help" it like others have suggested.

Good advice about the fuses... I'll give it a try.

                  Thanks!

Re: Pricing on replacement factory radio unit

Nothing plays, ejects, or otherwise. But the tray moves, and CD error is displays.

I'm going to try the fuse-pull method and see what happens.
                    Thanks,
                    Ross

My cd "Door" isn't opening. Did the Fuse Pull work?

RMF1960, If you're going to replace your radio with a stock radio. I think I would go with the newer TBird models that have the SAT. button. It's a nice feature your 02 radio doesn't have. Then you can have Sirius or XM radio installed to play through it if you want. Leroy

I finally just replaced the unit. I had a custom shop install an Alpine unit that can play a single CD, but more importantly, can play music from a flash drive. I have my entire music selection availble to me on an 8gig flash drive and if my passeger has an USB compatible unit, we can listen to their collection by just removing my flash drive and plugging in their unit. The remote steering wheel buttons work too, with the proper wiring harness.

I am pretty sure that the wiring harness in the 02 does not support the newer radio.

Go to Radios&More.com They are very knowledgeable and can answer all your questions. They also discount factory radios more than any dealer I know. The owner answers their toll free number and he knows his stuff.

That's correct. The harness in the 2003 doesn't support the newer radio either.
