    Re: Battery Drain???

I HAD THE PROBLEM WITH BATTERY DRAIN DUE TO THE REAR DEFROST NOT GOING OFF WHEN IGN TURNED OFF BEFORE "TIMING OUT" ON ITS OWN. THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS AND IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME. IS THIS AN ISSUE WITH YOURS? I TOO HAVE A BATT TENDER AS IT'S IN STORAGE FOR WINTER, USUALLY 3-4 MOS., THE BATTERY'S BEEN GREAT WITH IT. KNOCK ON WOOD, IT'S THE ORIGINAL STILL. MY LAST MUSTANG WAS OVER TEN YRS OLD WHEN I TRADED AND IT HAD THE ORIGINAL BATT! REPLACEMENTS NEVER LAST LIKE THE ORIGINALS.

      Re: Battery Drain???

I have notice of late that my battery is not holding a charge and after about 48 hours there is not enough power to start the car and I have had to jump start it. I now have a battery tender on it which keeps it fully charged but only for a short period of time.

The car does not get driven in the winter, it has 53,000 miles on it.

      My question(s) are:

1.) How long should the origial battery last? My car was built in June 2001 and it is the original battery so 8 years and 6 months.

2.) Has the time come to replace the battery?

3.) Someone said the correct battery is only available from a Ford Dealer. Is that right?

      Gord.

Gord: It's because of those new wheels, your battery feels drained.
Rob told me a few weeks back that he can get the batterys for our application if Ford can't supply it locally.
ps. I can put a meter on it to see if your alternator is charging properly when engine is running.

          Martin,

Wheels, battery??? Yeah right! I have been noticing this for a while, thought it perhaps was because I wasn't driving the car enough lately.

Ok so when you get a chance and want to come over, give me a shout and bring your meter with you and I'll buy the beer or the coffee your choice. Besides, you haven't seen the Thunderbird Room (man room) yet and it would be a good opportunity to check out my die cast collection too.

          Thanks,

          Gord.

Will see what I can fit in during the holidays. I will also look at your (Man Room) but would feel better if there was a third party there with us.

ps. Doesn't that MSG top look good on the black. It may slow the Bird down a bit however.

              Third party???

Well bring Carol along with you.

Marj is off effective Thursday of this week until after the New Year.

We can discuss over coffee tomorrow.

                Re: Battery Drain???

After reading your posts Gentlemen, I pondered how I would open the trunk to access the battery if the battery went dead and I recalled from reading the manual about the manual key operated trunk release behind the drivers seat. I never used it but went to the garage and tried it, it worked. Now I can sleep well tonight.

My next battery might be one of those red top spiral wound batteries.......They do not require a vent.
