        Re: Influence of Gas Prices

Say your Bird averages 20 mpg, and you drive 7000 miles a year. I don't drive that many miles, but I think that's about average. With gas at $3 a gallon, that comes out to $1050. With gas at $4 a gallon, the cost is $1400, or a little bit less than a dollar a day more. Instead of depriving myself of the joy of driving my Bird, I'll just buy a large cup of McDonald's coffee in the morning rather than a Starbuck's. I like McDonald's coffee better anyway, and I sure as heck like driving my Bird more than I like watching it sit in the garage. The way things are going, there may come a day in the not too distant future when driving anything that uses gas will be cost prohibitive, except for the very wealthy, so I'm going to drive my Bird while I can.

I didnt vote. I won't drive less because of the cost and no I wont cancel vacactions. But yes I do see how the cost sucks. I just paid for our tickets to the Czech Republic yesterday and what used to cost me 1800 round trip ( I am cheap fly cattle class) cost me almost 4000 this year! As for driving the bird I do plan on driving it less this year. Not because of cost but I really enjoy my bicycle and the benefit of exercise it gives.

Hey Everybody, I have NEVER put anything but regular gas into my 2002 'Bird (owned since new) and now at 36,000+ miles, I have NEVER had a problem with the performance of the car. So save yourselves 20 cents+ per gallon and put regular in the car and enjoy.

Had a good laugh yesterday. Was filling the truck up (no that surley was NOT the laugh), but accross from me was a Mercede's, pumping deisel at $4.16 a gallon. I felt good.

Oh boy. Hope I didn't speak to soon. A friend just emailed me this. He took this photo this morning. Good news for us any way, he's on the West Coast.

Prices here have gone up 21 cents in just the past week. If the vet bills weren't so high, I'd get a horse.

                          Re: Influence of Gas Prices

Well folks, the gas prices here in Canada have settled at $1.29 per litre or $5.85 per Canadian Gal. However as we only use the T-Bird for summer fun, we still plan to take in our 3 day tour with our local T-Bird club and many other events. Life is too short and I plan to enjoy our retirement. I am thinking of selling our 07 sport trac as we really don't need a truck and it sits all summer, as we drive our 05 Avalon and our T-Bird from April to Oct.
I am thinking of something like a Rav 4 or a CRV for winter driving. These vehicles can be had with AWD and should be good on fuel as well. I am fortunate that I can still enjoy a cup of coffee once or twice a day at Tim Horton's or Mcdonalds and afford gas for our cars. I am sure that if the prices of gas continues to approach $1.50 per litre that we will have to cut back on unnecessary driving, but until then, let er rip...........
                          Take care
                          Jim
