  • Re: Influence of Gas Prices

    Hi there,

On our trip to the UK in July, I have booked the car and it is a VW Golf Turbo Diesel. This is the same car that my dad drives and it gets around 35-40 m.p.g.

Because we are taking two of our grand daughters with us, we decided to visit London and Paris. My parents live in the north of England and so we will be using the hire car mainly for fairly short trips out.

It works out cheaper and a lot less tiring to do the London/Paris part on the train.

Back here, so far the cost of fuel is not stopping us using our T-bird. It's great right now to set off in the evening with the top down and just cruise around the mountain roads and enjoy the countryside.

    All the best,Gordon.

Nope. We knew the T-Bird wasn't our old Civic when we bought it and actually we can pull 26-27 mpg on the highway. Better than a whole bunch of cars on the road. Besides, even if it costs a lot to fill it, we consider it well worth it when driving down the road with the top down and everyone complimenting us on a beautiful car. It doesn't get much better!

I would like to know why gas is about $3.00 cheaper in Canada?

Maybe we should import oil from them instead of the middle east!

It would be nice if our Legislatures and Congress could earn some of their pay and come up with a real energy policy which would include oil for the short term and renewable energy and nuclear for the longer term.

What did the movie say. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!"

I'm not bitter but, I guess we all should start clinging to our gas also!

Gas is more expensive in Canada.
May sound cheaper in Metric, but as of today, in Ontario, the gas is down to $1.30 a liter for regular, $1.41 for premium gas.

so to do the math, at about 4 liters per US gallon = $5.20 or $ 5.64 for premium for the Birds.

My fill ups are costing $75 to $80.

Just watching the late news and gas will be up tomorrow by 5 cents a liter or 20 cents per US Gallon!!

Dean, Hate to tell you but most of our oil/gas already comes from Canada.

We've been surprised by the price of gasoline in Tucson this week. It surely must have one of the lowest prices in the country right now. At least 2 of the Circle K convenience stores within a mile of the hotel have regular unleaded for $3.699 and premium for $3.919.

These prices are certainly the lowest we have seen on our trip. Never thought I'd be happy to pay just over $3.90 per gallon. I think the most we have paid so far for premium on this trip is $4.199.

Those deisel folks must be really happy of there performance, $5.00+.

No wont change plans -- The Gripe factor will just be higher for sure.
Depending on where go, would have to decide if take the F250 diesel
                      or the new Ford Focus.

Just filled the F-150 up with 87 octane @ $ 3.959. First time I gassed it up since May 20th. I ran the last tank down to where the message center was telling me I could go 33 more miles, so I estimate that I had 2 gals. in the tank.

Anyway, I was shooting to set a personal record for my first $100 plus fill-up. As the meter rolled near $100 I knew That I was going to pass my goal of $100. The pump shut off.

This tank full should last me 60 days. Took the Bird out today for the first time in a month. It still has a full tank.

It's obvious that the price of gas has influenced the way we drive now.

Our recent trip from Tahlequah to New Orleans to Tucson to Phoenix to Tahlequah resulted in these numbers:

                            exactly 3667 miles
approximately 22 miles per gallon (tend to drive a little faster than optimal for max MPG)
almost $700 in gasoline (haven't added up the tickets yet for an exact amount)

Like Randy said, the gripe factor is pretty high. So much of these prices are bogus. The biggest example was in Arizona. Prices in Tucson were a full 50 cents a gallon cheaper than in Phoenix (regular unleaded - $3.69 vs $4.19). These cities are separated by about 100 miles and most of the gasoline sold in Tucson is piped or trucked there from Phoenix!! Somebody is making a killing.

Charlie did you fill the tank or did the pump shut off. Some pumps can't go past $100 and have to have new meters installed or all new pumps.

When I go to the bank for money they still ask how I want it.I tell them to give it to me in $100 bills it's easier to spend that way.

Yup, it does affect things. Last week I paid 154.9 litre up here in Canda and that my friends is hefty, but what a ride.
Its my special hobby so just plan the time differently, no t-bird for sale here!!!!
